Ashwagandha is the richest ayurvedic medicine and has numerous uses, to know more distinguishes uses. Here we are given a scarce detail. Ashwagandha is a very well-known and useful ayurvedic herb since the golden period of Ayurveda when sages of Ayurveda charkas and Sushruta authenticate the text of Ayurveda in the first to sixth centuries CE. Ashwagandha is as the name itself pronounce the smell of ashawa + gandha=horse urine, regional and traditional name of ashwagandha is ashwagand, balada, kamrupini, gandhapatri, vajini, asgandha, asgandh, penneru gadda_dommadolu gadda, amukura, askulang, amukkura, asandh, doragunj, asandha, ghoda aakun, asvagandha, ashvagandhi. Also known as a “Strength of a Horse- Power of horse”, modern science in China seems to produce the best quality of Chinese Ginseng, In India winter cherry and also known as Indian ginseng. But the best quality ashwagandha is produced in Nagor also known as ashwagandha nagori. There are many species available India, but among all the ashwagandha plants; ashwagandha nagori is one of the best qualities.

Ashwagandha contains chemical constituents identified, extracted, and isolated, biologically active ingredients are alkaloids-isopelletierine, anaferine, steroidal lactones- withanolides, withaferin’s, saponins containing an additional acyl group sitoindoside VII and VIII, and withanolides with glucose at carbon 27 sitoindoside IX and X. It is also rich in iron. Besides containing alkaloids, pyrazole alkaloid (From leaves), withanone M:P. 263, allactones Withanolides E, F, G, H, I, J, K, L and M (From Leaves), and alkaloids somniferine, somnine, somniferinine, withananine, pseudo-withanine, tropine, pseudo-tropine, cuscohygrine, anferine, and anhydrine.  It also, contains 12 alkaloids, 35 withanolides and several sitoindosides.

Ashwagandha has majorly one of the best nervine tonics immunosuppressive & immune tonics, memory enhancers, and brain strokes causing paralysis, and Various neurological conditions such as antiparkinsonian, antivenom, anti-arthritic, anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor. Besides also known for enhancing energy, health, longevity, and stamina without interference with the heart and other organs and behavior, hypothyroidism, tolerance, immunomodulation, hypolipidemic, Hepatoprotective, antibacterial-effective against, worm-infestation, cardiovascular protection, and dependence.

Ashwagandha is also a very effective antioxidant useful in anti-carcinogenic & preventive activity in different parts of the body including breast cancer, colon cancer cell lines, Ovarian fibroids & carcinoma, Due to its GABA mimetic effect it is the drug of choice of many ayurvedic physicians in cases of insomnia, anxiety, depression, mood swing, mood elevator, calm the activity of the brain, and for superior effects on long term use compare to alprazolam. In thyroid imbalance and correction of thyroxin, Motor function disorders, Skin diseases (reduce inflammation of skin and tissue and syphilitic sores, etc.), In cases of acute & chronic inflamed origins.

Ashwagandha is in switrapaha (Very effective in cases of leukoderma- white spot - Safed Daag)

Ashwagandha is a Shothahara (Very useful through an action to remove and clear an impurity (aam/ama) from the various channels)

Ashwagandha is a kshayapaha (beneficial in gaining muscular strength or emaciation due to any diseases caused by asthma, chronic cough diseases, or allergic condition of vataja and kaphaja vkruti).

Ashwagandha is a powerful remedy in shukra dhatu that helps to alleviate Asthenospermia.

Ashwagandha is also used for local applications in impotency – Ashwagandhadi Yamakam strengthens the organ.

Ashwagandha is in Manovikara/ Mansik Rog (Mental Disorders).

Ashwagandha is in Nindranash (As age increases, in older people’s circadian clock/ aging brain) There is a disturbing cycle of the circadian rhythm, and ashwagandha helps to maintain this sleep disorder.
